From Enlightenment to Critical Idealism

Keywords: Metaphysics, sources and schemes of knowledge, Enlightenment, Transcendental philosophy, Jewish philosophy, Neo-Kantianism.

The present research program aims at an analysis of metaphysical and epistemological problems in modern continental philosophy and Jewish philosophy, esp. Descartes, Spinoza, Wolff, Mendelssohn, Maimon, Kant, Trendelenburg, and H. Cohen.

Reinier Munk holds the Faculty’s chair in the History of Modern philosophy and Modern Jewish philosophy (since the summer of 2008). He served as Goudeket Professor in Modern Jewish Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, VU University Amsterdam (2000-2008), and as adjunct Professor (Buitengewoon hoogleraar namens het LUF) in the History of Judaism, Leiden University (2003-2008).

He received his training in Jewish philosophy at the VU University, Amsterdam, and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a Research Fellow at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and VU University, Amsterdam, as well as a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies, University of Oxford. He also served as a visiting lecturer in Modern Jewish philosophy at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.

Reinier Munk is founding editor of the book series Amsterdam Studies in Jewish Thought ASJT, and of Studies in German Idealism SIGI. Both series are a publication of Springer Publishers (Heidelberg, New York, Dordrecht).
